About this deal

LG OLED Panel is certified by Intertek for 100% colour Fidelity measured to CIE DE2000 with 125 colour patterns. Cinematic Movement is the least aggressive, stabilising 24fps content but not necessarily removing its natural stutter. Natural isn’t as the name implies, with more jittery movement watching 1917 and it also has the effect of making the lower half of the soldiers’ bodies look a little fake. Soap Opera Effect (SOE) settles in with this setting. The LG G3 delivers an exceptional gaming performance with input lag as low as 9.2ms at 60fps in “Game Optimiser” mode, halving to around 4.7ms at 120fps with Boost Mode engaged. Its four HDMI 2.1 ports support the full HDMI 2.1 bandwidth of 48Gbits/sec, permitting 4K 120Hz gameplay at 12-bit 4:4:4 resolution. HGiG support is implemented correctly, allowing for higher peak brightness without double tone-mapping in compatible HDR games.

As well as transforming what we can now expect WOLED TVs to be capable of with HDR content, the G3's mind-boggling brightness and unexpected colour enhancements suddenly make OLED a vastly more engaging bright room technology than it ever has been before. This is actually a pretty huge development, as it chops away hard at the old 'LED is for bright rooms, OLED is for dark rooms' adage. In fact, the OLED65G3’s pictures even remain punchy and enjoyable with the TV placed in front of a set of patio doors on a bright, sunny day. While I initially questioned the stand’s stability, I was impressed with the ease that the G3 balanced such a large weight on what felt like flimsy hooks when fixing it in place, but the four tiny screws seemed to do the job and hold the TV upright. WebOS: User-friendly platform makes finding your favourite content super-easy – with colour coded cards at the foot of the screen. The built-in sound quality of the LG G3 is surprisingly good for a TV. While (of course) connecting one of the best soundbars would be even more immersive, I found that turning on the AI Sound Pro enhanced the audio quality significantly.

The LG G3 is brighter and smarter than its 2022 predecessor and one of the best OLED TVs we’ve ever laid eyes on

This streamlined feature allows for easy adjustments of volume, brightness, picture mode and other common settings, making it more convenient to fine-tune your viewing experience. Moving on, the LG OLED65G3 is incredibly bright out of the box. Small highlights fizz with intensity, there’s barely any reduction in the brightness output of larger objects on screen, with average brightness across various picture modes considerably brighter than the Sony A95K, contributing to brighter white tones, although with Dolby Vision content this position is reversed. Assuming the G3 does not come with a stand, wondering what G1 or G2 owners did while they wait to mount their TVs. The LG stand is quite expensive, and also has an upward tilt that won't work for me. LG states that this is largely down to improvements made to its colour processing - though I guess it's also true that the way MLA works means there isn’t actually much more brightness being produced by the OLED pixels than there was before. The brightness increase is predominantly down to the light the OLEDs being produced emerging through the screen more efficiently. While LG says it has made gains with their TruMotion processing, to my eyes it’s not to the level of Sony. You’re given three options: Cinematic Movement, Natural, and Smooth Movement.

The LG G3 sits at the top of LG’s 4K OLED lineup and is part of its OLED evo range. Unlike last year’s model, the G2, it uses a groundbreaking MLA panel that delivers higher brightness, more impactful HDR and superior colour performance. When it came to connecting devices, this was a smooth experience. The LG G3 comes with four HDMI 2.1 ports, which makes it a contender as one of the best gaming TVs too – and when these are connected this information is thoughtfully displayed on the screen’s menu. It also only shows which ports have something connected, which is a neat touch. The LG G3 range is available in 55, 65, 77 and 83-inch versions, with a 97-inch version to come later - though note that the 83- and 97-inch sizes don’t benefit from the MLA technology that so transforms the other screen sizes. Although its higher peak brightness has rightly hogged the limelight, the increased light scattering from MLA brings another key benefit, virtually eradicating the off-axis pink tint and luminance drop normally seen on WRGB OLED panels, resulting in some of the widest viewing angles seen on a consumer OLED TV.
