I'm going to try and write a review here without spoiling anything. Not that there is much to spoil... How to Disappear Completely and Never Be Found is a how-to book by Doug Richmond, originally released in 1985.
So without giving to much away let me introduce you to the main plot of the story. How to disappear is a story about a girl named Zara who witnessed a murder of a homeless man, by a rising football star Luke. During the trial the case collapses and Zara is taken into witness protection after receiving death threats by a vigilante group set on finding justice for Luke's ruined career. Zara and her mum Lauren are given new identities and moved half way across the country whilst her step dad Adian and step sister Poppy stay in London, splitting their family up. We follow both Zara and Lauren's new life in witness protection and we follow the life left behind with Aidan and Poppy. Of course we know life isn't going to be plain sailing and we see the drama that unfolds by this Vigilante football group as they search for Zara known as 'Girl A'. After choosing to see the writing style as entertaining and not a distraction, the book was mildly interesting. It's pretty amazing how much information someone can get about you just by making phone calls and "pretexting" as he calls it. How To Disappear is very analog tradecraft for the rest of us. Ahearn is a former skiptracer, and he now works the other side, helping people disappear. While the image might be glamorously faking your own death to live on a tropical beach, the real world of not being found is a lot of scared and abused women. Okay, so I'm going to explain why I did not like this novel but before I do that let me just say that I do believe that this might become a favourite amongst YA fans. It has all the elements to theoretically make this novel the perfect YA thriller. Romance, action, humour and suspense. They are being hunted down and they are forced to follow the strict rules laid out by the police to avoid being found. One mistake could mean death.

I loved this book so much, I read it in one sitting! I feel like I can read it again and again which is rare for me. It’s so good the plot and the characters were amazing! I was hooked from the beginning and couldn’t put it down. This is a must read I think everyone should go out and buy it and read it especially if you’re a fan of thrillers and mysteries!!! Some people simply want to leave their previous life and start over. Maybe you had a bad relationship or a marriage that didn’t work out. Maybe you suffered some type of public embarrassment, and you don’t want to show your face around town. Disappearing and starting over is a real option for you and may offer the opportunity for a better life. The end of the book compensated the rather slow and dragging middle, because though I had an idea what happened with Nicolette, the mystery and the info withholding wasn’t forced or annoying (and it’s a pet peeve of mine). And, I can only praise the conclusion, the ending lines have a big impact and I could see the whole story in a different light, and I had to wonder how much of the story was true, and what kinds of lies one of the narrators told me. What makes this story so darkly compelling is the fact that Lauren is ripped apart from her husband Aidan as his daughter from a previous relationship is adamant that she won't be moving away.Writing one story is hard. Ann Stampler has written two stories in one. Two different characters. Two different voices. Two different perspectives. Interwoven in one story. The talent it takes to write one story in two views, written in such a way that the scenes, the story, is not repetitive, but each perspective falls into place to carry the story forward perfectly. Ann Stampler had pulled it off. The only partially good things was the ending when, some people were declared dead, which that's the way it should have turned out given the amount of mistakes and breaking the rules that happened. Protagonist #1 - Nicolette Holland - a beloved, bubbly, popular girl - has stumbled upon a grizzly murder and promptly disappeared.

The author admits that most of her research into witness protection drew a blank for obvious reasons, but she conveyed Lauren's loneliness living in a new surrounThis book, aside from its jokey tone, is very serious and explains how, with what seems like would be millions of dollars, to leave town and hide your new location, etc.. This book is not about establishing a new identity, it is about leaving no trail, and leaving a trail of false leads. There are complicated ways of forwarding phone messages and setting up post office boxes that can keep you hidden. It sounded stressful and a lot of work.
