As Vecna stands up, Robin throws another Molotov at him, while Nancy shoots Vecna multiple times, causing him to fall out of the window and onto the ground. Nancy, Steve, and Robin arrive outside the Creel house to find Vecna's body gone, with only singes remaining. One of my absolute favorite things about Stranger Things is how it gives everyone in the group a chance to have their hero moment, to solve some puzzle, or fix a problem. No one is just dead weight along for the ride and the series is always stronger for it. Even silly stoner Argyle becomes an asset! Now, the climactic sequences within the Creel house and Max’s cerebral journey to the Snow Ball are chilling, to say the least.
Over at the Upside Down Creel house, it’s not long before the vines take hold of Robin, Steve, and Nancy, trapping and strangling all of them. As if Steve Harrington hasn’t been choked out enough already this season! Anyway, things seem dire for that group, too. The unexpected appearance of a man from a town meeting, who recognizes Erica, builds tension instantly. If you touch her again, I will kill you, again,” Eleven tells him. For as fierce and threatening as that sentiment is, this mind fight takes a turn in Vecna’s favor real fast. He’s so happy to see Eleven because now she can watch as he kills all of her friends and destroys Hawkins before destroying the world. He ends up bringing both Eleven and an unconscious Max to his mind lair and tying them up with those vines. Now, if you only remember two things about Vecna after all of this they should be that the guy hates moisturizer but really loves a monologue. I mean, the amount of yammering this guy does! I guess it’s hard to fault him too much since this time the yammering he does reveals information that completely rewrites everything we thought we knew about the Upside Down and … all of Stranger Things, really. No big deal or anything.In Russia, the fully grown Demogorgon is the only monster still alive. It approaches Hopper, who grabs a sword after running out of ammo. Nancy, Steve, and Robin find Vecna's body in the attic. With Eleven, Vecna tells her that she thinks she and her friends have won, but it is just the beginning of the end. He insists that she had already lost, but El replies that it was he that didn't succeed. Hopper runs to the Demogorgon and cuts off its arm. Dodging it, Hopper finally kills the monster with a decapitation to the head. Joyce and Hopper embrace while Murray cheers as Dmitri and Yuri arrive inside a functioning Katinka. Lucas, Max, and Erica have a plan, and you can sense the pressure from the start. There’s a phase to it, with each step being as crucial as the next. Fulfillment time: 2-5 business days. He tells Nancy that she had changed his life for the better but wonders if they could have lasted as a couple had he changed before he met Nancy. Steve reveals that in his dream of traveling across the country with his family, he pictured Nancy by his side. But he admits that now it is too late for his dream to become a reality. The two are interrupted when Robin announces that they've arrived at the Creel home and the group sees Erica's light at the playground. Most of the emotional scenes in the episode were either improvised, reworded, or different from the original script. Confirmed by the Stranger Things writers, Eddie telling Dustin, "I love you, man.", Lucas yelling "Erica, help!", Mike saying to El, "You're my superhero.", and Hopper kissing Joyce before departing were all unscripted.
