About this deal

Dannibelle: The Chicco Polly Magic Relax really makes my job as a mum easier because my infant can eat, relax, watch TV or look at books all sitting comfortably and securely within this highchair. I can get on with house duties or simply relax without interruptions. A highchair is very important within our household and we found this one to be really useful. Would you choose this product to win? Aishwarya: This is a great high chair. It folds easily for storage. It is easy to clean. Son very happy in it which leaves me hands free to do chores around the kitchen. It's easy to assemble and stow away if needed. The tray is a good size and again super easy to clean. Overall it's a comfortable, safe, easy to clean place for my child to eat. The iconic Tripp Trapp highchair was originally launched in 1972 by Peter Opsvik so I was curious to see what has made its 50-year-old design so enduring. After a somewhat frustrating assembly process, I finally got it up and was impressed by how stylish it looked around my kitchen table. It’s also the exact height of the table which none of the other highchairs I tested were – a small but quite important detail. Michaela: The buttons which are used to move the armrests and to move the seat up and down are quite stiff. To make them more fluid would help when trying to adjust the highchair. The toy bar is also quite difficult to put on and to take off. When taking the toy bar off you have to pull it which sometimes feels like it might break.

While it may just seem like just a place to pop your child while they eat, there's more to what makes the best highchair than just how it looks. Parents want one that is easy to clean after messy mealtimes - because food will get into every little nook and cranny! - as well as straps that are safe and a good size tray. But there are a host of other extra features that you can look out for too. Can’t be used without an adult dining chair to hold it – not convenient for everyone’s dining situation Tejal: The product is fantastic and very versatile. I love that it can be used from birth up to 15kg and it is very easy to use and change once it's set up. My only hesitation in recommending this product as the winner is the price. It is expensive and although it can be used from birth, there are cheaper products on the market which would be more attractive for parents on a budget. Other than the price, I have thoroughly enjoyed using the product. The relevant safety directive to look out for is EU directive EN 14988:2017, which specifically sets out standards for children’s highchairs. We asked Charlotte Stirling-Reed what features bewildered first-time parents might watch out for, here are her top tips:As a mum of two, I found it very useful to use a highchair with a newborn insert. While babies don’t start eating until they’re approximately six months old, these inserts mean that you can safely sit a younger baby within them. This helps to make baby feel a part of mealtimes and stay in your eye line when you’re cooking or entertaining an older sibling. Type: Freestanding highchair which converts into a toddler chair | Materials: Not stated | Suitable from: 6 months+ | Harness: Yes | Wheels?: No What we love Type: Aluminium high chair which clips onto tables| Materials: Aluminium; rubber; fabric | Suitable from: 6 months+ | Harness: Yes | Wheels?: No What we love The robustness of the safety harness (is it three-point or five? Does it seem secure when attached?) The chair can be folded down to an utlra compact size, with the tray being easily fastened to the high chairs rear legs for storage even when folded.

They are also, of course, the most expensive – and be aware that, in this group in particular, you’ll need to pay extra for everything except the chair frame itself (including newborn accessories, baby seats, trays and even safety harnesses), so make sure this is included in your budget.

7. Best high chair for versatility: Oribel Cocoon

Five products were then awarded a Mumsnet Best badge – these are the products that we feel offer the best value for most parents. We also gave honourable mentions to three others.

The type of highchair you choose is very much down to personal preference as the range of designs is vast. Some are super stylish and look like an expensive piece of furniture that you’ll be proud to keep on display, while others aren’t so aesthetically pleasing but fold down neatly and do the job well. Others can be adjusted into a range of different seating options so they will accommodate your child from newborn to toddler. You should also consider the height of the highchair – you might want it to be a tall as your breakfast bar, for instance, or pull up neatly to the kitchen table. Although some of the chairs we tested had extra accessories making them suitable for smaller babies, children should only use a highchair to eat once they’re able to sit unaided. Babies often learn what and how to eat by watching their parents and siblings eat too”, she says. “It’s more likely that they will happily accept foods that they see you gobbling up yourself.” Lauren: Comfortable for my child, padded seat. Easy to clean. Very logical design to fold away/put up again. Easy to adjust the position. Easy to adapt to the baby recliner/add on the baby toy bar. Love the inclusivity of all baby ages, to get them to the table for family mealtimes. Acceptable price for such a good piece of equipment with such a good age range. I had a mimzy highchair and it was fab, but it was recommended to me as little one has hip dysplasia and its really wide. It could be a pain to clean but all the padding comes off and goes in the washing machine which I used to do once a week (normally Sunday after dinner and then it would be dry by Monday dinner time after nursery)."(Recommended by Mumsnetter ItsSnowJokes) Our verdictA multifunctional chair might be a good choice if you want to adjust the chair to fit your baby or sit at your table, if you prefer a more comfortable cushion or if you know you’ll want to fold it away when you’re not using it. 3. Transitional highchairs Another Stokke chair to feature on our list, the Steps is a stylish highchair that can be used from birth. There's no doubt about it, it's a pricey piece of baby equipment but for the price tag you get a good quality high chair that your child will get plenty of use out of. There’s plenty of good, handy features in its design such as an easy-to-use five-point harness, padded seat, and a tray table that slides on and off with ease. You can take the seat out to give it a good clean after particularly messy mealtimes and throw the tray in the dishwasher. There’s also an integrated crotch post and step to support baby’s feet while they eat.
