About this deal

So long as you’ve got a Bluetooth dongle, this is a headset that can be used across multiple platforms with relative ease. It isn’t confined to the console it was made for, which is excellent for those who jump between different machines on a regular basis. However, as a consequence the Stealth 700 Gen 2 feels incredibly durable, and will likely stand tall in the face of a few unintended drops to the floor or rough handling by younger players. In terms of quality, they feel a step up on Turtle Beach’s cheaper products. The Turtle Beach Audio Hub mobile app for iOS and Android has received an update to v3.14.5 (189) for iOS and v3.14.5 (220) for Android.

Coming in at a mid-range price, the Stealth 700 Gen 2 offers an abundance of audio capabilities and other features that will likely prove overkill for your average console player. A new firmware update is ready for your Stealth 600 Gen 2 for PlayStation ®! Connect your headset to the Turtle Beach Audio Hub program on your PC or Mac to update your device’s firmware to version (v.1.2.4). The Turtle Beach Audio Hub mobile app for iOS and Android has received an update to 3.14.6 (192) for iOS and 3.14.6 (223) for Android. The Stealth 700 Gen 2 comes fitted with 50mm nanoclear neodymium drivers that emit a smooth, satisfying soundscape that also isn’t afraid to make an explosive impact when it matters. Smooth sounds such as the flowing of rivers and casual banter of Yakuza: Like a Dragon pop just as much as the unpredictable firefights of Modern Warfare . The Stealth 700 Gen 2 houses 50mm nano clear neodymium drivers, so the headset is at its best in complex, more bass-focused environments and games. As such, FPS enthusiasts and shooter gluttons will find the most enjoyment in the more low-end focused sound stage. If things start getting really hectic – we’re looking at you MMO players – the headset can struggle to layer things through in a way that’s easy to parse, and in hectic environments, you might notice the headset’s usual clarity gets a bit muddy.Even with all its changes, though, the Stealth 700 Gen 2 is still a more feature-rich version of the Stealth 600 Gen 2, and the last generation of Turtle Beach’s Stealth headsets. Though the plastic band is slightly larger and features a steel frame, the Stealth 700 Gen 2 features the same rotating hinges as the Stealth 600 Gen 2, and the same shaped earcups designed to hug your ears. Beyond such accidents, the microphone is more than adequate for regular gameplay and partying up with friends. I wouldn’t depend on it for accurate voice recording, but this likely isn’t something the average gamer will even consider. The Stealth 700 Gen 2 can be connected to a mobile device to take calls and listen to music, although it’s likely a little too bulky to wear in public, and it’s impossible to fold it up for easier storage. Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 conclusion Bluetooth greatly expands the headset’s utility. It’s much easier to pair the headset with a PC, and you can pair it with other devices, like your phone. Better yet, you can pair it with a Bluetooth device and an Xbox simultaneously. This allows you to adjust audio levels on the fly while playing, but also lets you listen to a podcast or take a call on your phone while listening to your Xbox audio at the same time. (As someone who likes to put on a podcast while playing some games, this was a huge revelation for me). Like the Stealth 600 Gen 2, the Stealth 700 Gen 2 supports virtual 7.1 surround sound through Windows Sonic, and offers a functional, but not particularly rousing virtual surround sound experience. In games like Apex Legends, you can hear directionality of gunfire, footsteps and other sounds, but sounds coming from your side or behind you sometimes sound disproportionately loud. On the Stealth 700 Gen 2 specifically, I noticed that Windows Sonic created compression issues, which led to little pip noises coming out of nowhere every so often. Simply put, most games sound better with it off. The microphone isn’t the most attractive piece of design. It’s a lump of plastic housed within the left earcup, which can be flipped down and switched on whenever you need it. I adore the intuitive nature of this design, meaning you’ll never need to go through the fuss of muting yourself or actually spending an entire match of Overwatch not realising that your rambles at the useless Widowmaker have been heard by the entire lobby. Yes, that happened to me.

What is the Turtle Beach Stealth 700 Gen 2 MAX like?

Weirdly, The Messenger – a platformer with music made to sound like something you’d hear on 8- and 16-bit-style consoles – presented some of the only noticeable audio hiccups. Some complex, high notes in the music would come through scratchy and muddled. The headset’s newly-added metal-reinforced headband and glasses-friendly design mean even players with big heads and glasses frames aren’t going to be made to feel uncomfortable during marathon sessions. We have very minor complaints about the quality of the hinges and joints that allow the cups to move and the headband to adjust, but through some quite intense testing (over a period of months!) the headset has held up and is as good as new now, some 100+ days into our review period. A new firmware update is ready for your Stealth 700 Gen 2 for Xbox and PlayStation ®! Connect your headset to the Turtle Beach Audio Hub program on your PC or Mac to update your device’s firmware to version (v.2.0.2). With variants available for both Xbox and PlayStation, this is a headset that works great, sounds great and will likely only become more useful as exclusives are released for next-gen consoles.
