About this deal

A single cloud usually doesn’t say all that much… but combined with a SEQUENCE of changes in the architecture of the sky you can get a real sense for shifting patterns. Rain Scenario #1 – Nimbostratus Storms If you’re seeking age-old tools & techniques to go deep with knowledge of plants, trees, birds and energize your natural instincts… you’ve come to the right place! When cumulonimbus storms get big enough, they can produce intense lightning, hail, and even tornadoes. if fixed, undisturbed, in free air, not exposed to radiation, fire, or sun, but in the ordinary light of a well-ventilated room or outer air, the chemical mixture in a so-called storm-glass varies in character with the direction of the wind, not its force, specially (though it may so vary in appearance only) from another cause, electrical tension. To predict weather with clouds, you simply have to look at observable patterns like cloud size, cloud shape, altitude, vertical depth, and color shading within the cloud itself.

With this decorative weather predictor, you’ll never get caught in the rain again because it will tell you right before it happens. Does it sound like magic? Not really. This instrument is actually based on a classic device called ‘storm glass’ which was popularized by Admiral Robert FitzRoy. During his voyage with Charles Darwin aboard the HMS Beagle in 1831, FitzRoy claimed that the device helped him forecast the weather with accuracy. Despite FitzRoy’s endorsement, storm glasses fell out of favor when cheaper mercury barometers were introduced in the 19th century. This explains why many people do not even know that this instrument ever existed. FitzRoy used the different stages of crystallization and fogginess that occur in the liquid as weather conditions change to establish a pattern and draw up an extensive forecast chart. As previously mentioned, the chemicals mixed into the distilled water of a storm glass have a clear appearance. Under certain atmospheric conditions, the liquid starts to crystallize and take on a foggy appearance. The various states of the liquid and the predicted weather conditions associated with them (as shown in the diagram above), are the conclusions of Admiral FitzRoy. It has not been substantiated by any recent research or studies. Modern-day storm glasses are completely sealed. This means the only atmospheric variable that can really play any part in the changes occurring in a storm glass is temperature. So let’s go deeper and take some solid steps towards learning how to predict weather with clouds! How To Read Clouds If there are large flakes throughout the liquid, it will be overcast in temperate seasons or snowy in the winter. Cumulunimbus clouds form over a few hours, but you can usually detect the early signs of developing rain quite early in the day. The researchers will then incorporate their new AI model into the Met Office’s existing supercomputer infrastructure to be able to more routinely compare its accuracy to their existing physics-based forecasting methods already in use.

Whenever you’re ready… here are 4 ways I can help you connect deeply with nature in your local environment: Tanaka, Yasuko; Hagano, Koichi; Kuno, Tomoyasu; Nagashima, Kazushige (1 May 2008) [1 February 2008]. "Pattern formation of crystals in storm glass". Journal of Crystal Growth. 310 (10): 2668–2672. Bibcode: 2008JCrGr.310.2668T. doi: 10.1016/j.jcrysgro.2008.01.037. These clouds drop a large amount of precipitation in a very short period of time, but the overall rain event typically lasts for much less time than nimbostratus rain. Learning to identify clouds was a huge step on my personal journey to understanding weather patterns, so let’s look at this next. Eight Different Types of Clouds That Predict Weather

As stated above, if you want to predict the approach of rain, it’s not enough to simply identify rain clouds in the sky. You can practice identifying these patterns in clouds by stepping outside to observe the sky while asking some sorting questions like:
