About this deal

Finance is provided by PayPal Credit (a trading name of PayPal UK Ltd, Whittaker House, Whittaker Avenue, Richmond-Upon-Thames, Surrey, United Kingdom, TW9 1EH). Of the Vienna Game (the opening I know the best) the book includes only FOUR pages covering two lines.

This level of extraordinary dedication - he has also taught chess to schoolchidren previously - has however enabled him to produce a highly inspiring and well-written chess manual that will undoubtedly become one of the most popular chess books of all time. For instance, Chapter 10 (Intermediate Openings) covers the London System, Vienna System, and Alapin Sicilian, but each too briefly to be useful unless you already understood the opening. Much of it will feel familiar and easy to understand, especially if you've watched and liked Levy's content on his channel previously. If you are new to the game, check out /r/chessbeginners and before posting here please read our rules: https://www. I received a complimentary copy of the book from Clarkson Potter/ Ten Speed Press through NetGalley.

Overall the book is very well done, it has some of the characteristic humor of Levy and some fun facts sprinkled in throughout the book. NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Learn chess from International Master and YouTube’s top chess teacher Levy Rozman (aka GothamChess) in this refreshing and fun guide for beginner and intermediate players. GothamChess and his youtube videos were the perfect blend of humor and instruction, mixing top level play with garbage wood pushers like myself. If you’re looking to improve your chess game or start playing chess and discover why it is so popular, this is the book to read! The first half of this unique guide introduces rising players (0-800 Elo rating) to the four key areas to consider when playing chess-openings, endings, tactics, and strategy – and the second half builds upon these core skills for more experienced players (800-1300 Elo rating).

Adding to Rozman's mystique is his openness about his issues with anxiety that have thus far prevented him from attaining GM norms and advancing to the chess world's upper echelons. This would make a great choice for public or school library acquisition, for gifting, and for chess afficionados. However, the trade-off from the breadth of the book is that many of the topics discussed are quite brief and not in much depth. Please remember it can take some time for your bank or credit card company to process and post the refund too.I'm still not quite ready for prime time, but I can pretty much beat the weakest chess computer settings most of the time.

Plenty of basic theory, plus some good intermediate content to get you working your way up the ratings.

This part covers what is a checkmate, the different possible ways to reach a draw, the 10 golden moves, a brief overview of a few openings for white and black (this is not an opening's books), and basic tactics/endgames/strategy. The examples enabled the author to use creative license - but the responses were not anything a sane chess player would respond with. It can get overwhelming quickly, so a book like this will make you feel more secure on your path towards greatness or whatever you personally strive for. When the world shut down in the early days of the pandemic in 2020, I began teaching my students on Zoom, but forcing six-year-old kids to sit through private chess lessons online was both fruitless and mildly depressing, so I turned my focus to YouTube. This has given me the confidence to play against human opponents again and not just the computer/bots.
