You're not helping him fall asleep if you're in there spanking him and you're just harboring resentment about your "sacrifice" of staying in there with him (as if he has any concept of that.

I really hope you asked this just to have a discussion or something and not bc you want to spank your LO for not sleeping.We eventually go in and spank her and then she lays down but it feels wrong to associate sleep with getting spanking and being in trouble. Living on a large property - if they did not want to go to sleep at that moment - I took the time and took them outside to walk about and talk.

Bedtimes recently have been nightmarish - we try to stick to a routine but there is always a 50/50 chance it will devolve into mom and daughter yelling/crying at each other from 7:30-8:45 until they both pass out from exhaustion.
