About this deal

I've been teaching chording to all of my students this term - it's totally amazing what they're doing with it. I should mention that one of the main characters is retarded-differently abled-autistic-cognitively fucked, or something. Maurice Richardson, of The Observer, considered the novel "the usual sado-masochistic free-for-all, plus octopuses".

Now, however, the parents are gone, the siblings grown apart, a boy is dead and Fred in jail, and Ava is forced to wonder: is it her job to save her brother?Who can forget his wonderful illustrations for George’s Marvellous Medicine, The Twits, The BFG or Revolting Rhymes? Thus they were allowed to run free in the woods on the property of his former school, where they lived, with no instruction. One can't help but feel for both Ava and her brother, who certainly seemed to have some sort of unnamed disability. The Book of No is a must-read for the pushover tendency in all of us who agree to most things asked of us.

In part, I found it annoying that we went from first person to third person omniscient for the Dennis, Kitty, and Fred chapters. The plot was taking a while to get going, and there were so many flashbacks, it was hard to keep track of what was present and past.Sometimes you have to say ‘no’ so you have time to say ‘yes’ to what really matters—the things that are important to you, preserve your health, and add to your happiness. Natasha Soobramanien’s Genie and Paul is another wonderful take on the brother-sister dynamic, also inspired by a classic of French literature.
