Lovely for dipping into, but the photography presents a very idealistic impression of the natural world. Her understanding of how to bring out the best in children is the fruit of over 25 years as an experienced primary school teacher, sought after accredited play therapist, clinical supervisor and therapeutic advisor to schools. I'm not sure if it's the timing, the way it speaks or the beautiful photography, probably all 3, as this book connected with me on a deep level and it's one I'll keep picking up to reread I'm certain. Each character was very unique and they were all dealing with different problems in their personal lives. A former teacher and forever an educator-at-heart, she is probably most proud that her picture book Your Name Is a Song was named the December 2021 NEA Read Across America book and that it is included in the curriculums of major school districts throughout the United States.were interesting but the most helpful parts to me were the specific practical suggestions on each topic as to what to do to experience that topic in nature.

I can be easily discouraged, I confess, by content that I find rather esoteric, but Grounded is accessible, engaging, intelligent and highly practical, encouraging both reflection and practice. A charming, heartwarming, hug of a middle grade book featuring a rag tag group of young Muslim kids who get stuck at an airport during a storm and band together to help find a missing cat. It may guide you to focus on what’s important but also highlights ways to combat the wider issues the world is suffering from such as climate chaos and change. Grounded is a joyful peer beneath the surface to where our own roots channel those of ancient time: it has brought new meaning to my everyday rituals of walking and seeing. She is currently a fellow with the Highlights Foundation Muslim Storytellers Program, and Grounded is her first novel for young readers.
