About this deal

The 35mm f1.4 is sharp. Edges and corners are a little softer until about f2.8 but for the most part, it’s a great lens to shoot wide open with or stopped down. Mitakon is an interesting brand that’s gained some popularity with Fuji hobbyists in the past year. They offer affordable ultra-fast primes for the Fuji mount with some unique focal lengths. The catch? A sometimes-shoddy build quality and no auto-focus whatsoever — which ends up mattering a lot when you’re shooting wide open at f/.95. When the XF35mm f1.4 was originally designed, it didn’t need to do much. AF on the X-Pro 1 was just in its infancy, there was no Eye-AF and AF-C was unusable. The center performance is quite decent wide open at f/1.4 and it shines at f/4, which is its sweet spot. Corner performance is not as good as the center and the mid-frame (but that’s expected from a fast prime) – it starts out a little weak at f/1.4, but improves as you stop down, reaching the best performance at the f/5.6 mark. X-Pro1 + XF35mmF1.4 R @ 35mm, ISO 200, 1/1200, f/5.6 This all-metal lens has no visible distortion, focuses super-close, is super-sharp right out to the edges at f/1.4, has no lateral color fringes, has no visible light falloff even at f/1.4 and has superb bokeh.

I'd leave either a 52mm Nikon Clear (NC - UV) filter, or a 52mm Hoya Super HMC UV on the lens at all times. I would leave the hood at home. As the lens is stopped down, sharpness levels increase to lofty heights in the central portion of the image and reach very good levels of clarity towards the edges of the frame between f/5.6 and f/16. Superb. You can find a tiny bit of busyness if you look for it, but for a 50mm equivalent, it is excellent. Vignetting Distortion is surprisingly low, whether you shoot JPEG or RAW. Imatest measured just 0.16% barrel distortion on JPEG images and 0.18% on RAW images. Looks like there is very little correction of distortion taking place. The Fuji 35mm f/1.4 has two rings on the lens barrel – a focusing ring on the front of the barrel, and an aperture ring close to the mount of the lens. Since the Fuji X system uses a fly-by-wire system, which means that the focus ring is not mechanically tied to any of the lens elements, but rather controlled electronically, there is no focus scale on the lens and the ring will rotate in either direction without any hard stops or extra resistance. This Fuji XF 35mm f/1.4 is an aspherical 50mm-equivalant lens with performance better than LEICA's equivalent LEICA SUMMILUX-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH. The Fujifilm XF 35mm F1.4 R is a relatively compact prime lens, at least when compared to its DSLR equivalents, but it's still quite a bit bigger than a comparable Micro Four Thirds lens, weighing 187g and measuring 55mm in length. As you can see in the pictures above, it complements the top-of-the-range Fujifilm X-Pro1 very well, not feeling at all front-heavy and more than matching the body in terms of its build quality. It comes supplied with a lightweight and compact circular lens hood that screws into the front of the lens There can be gobs of it, but it’s beautiful. Use a hood or your hand to get rid of it, but I definitely encourage exploiting it for creative effect. Aberrations

If you are bothered by what you see wide open, you can take care of vignetting easily using post-processing software like Lightroom or Photoshop.

While showing some age by today’s standards in terms of autofocus and technical characteristics, the lens has some of the most unique characteristics of any modern lens to date. I'd pitch the Fuji cap and get a new Nikon "pinch" type cap. I'm not kidding: these fatter Nikon caps are much easier to use. That said, 35mm on an ASP-C crop sensor is the equivalent of a 50mm lens on a full-frame system like Nikon or Canon. The 50mm is one of the most, if not the most, “classic” fields of view available in photography — and for a good reason. It makes people look great and is extremely flexible. Stunning image quality and bokeh

The Fujifilm XF 33mm F1.4 R LM WR doesn't exhibit any barrel distortion, as you can see in the photo below. Sunstars and Flare The Fujifilm XF 35mm f/1.4 lens continues to be a highly regarded and sought-after lens in the Fujifilm X-series lineup. While newer lens options may have been released since its introduction, the XF 35mm f/1.4 lens remains a popular choice among photographers for several reasons.

At maximum aperture, sharpness in the centre of the frame approaches very good levels, but the clarity towards the edges of the frame lags behind somewhat. At very wide apertures this phenomenon is rarely much of an issue, with greater importance being paced on sharpness in the centre of the image. The optical path is based on eight elements in total, which include one aspherical element, aiming to enhance sharpness and reduce distortion and chromatic aberration. Fuji’s Super EBC coating is also on hand, to reduce ghosting and flare. If you have an X-Pro1, you need one. It's much better than any of the LEICA 35mm and 50mm SUMMILUX-M ASPH lenses for use on the Fuji. In terms of accessories, the Fujifilm XF 33mm F1.4 R LM WR ships with standard lens and mount caps plus quite a large plastic circular-shaped lens hood which snaps into place. There is no bag or case included with this lens. Focal Range
